Dolly Parton is one of the the most successful women country performers of all times. The singer, song writer, entrepreneur and philanthropist, she is a woman of controversies and a very authentic person at the same time.
Dolly Parton was born in Sevierville, Tennessee, the forth of twelve children. She began composing at the age of four, with her mother writing down her music as she heard Dolly singing. Since her child years, Dolly began performing on local radio and television programs. The singer tells that even though her appearance often makes an impression of "cheap looking blond", she is used to thinking and taking actions like a man. She has never used her femininity to get ahead and never let record producers make a mistake of not taking her seriously, even in her younger years.
Her initial success came through her songwriting. It is also the songwriting that would make her enormously successful later with the songs "I Will Always Love You" and "Joline". She wrote music for the films and television, and for the musical.
Dolly Parton has been married to her husband, Carl Dean, for 45 years.
