Style makeover tip #1. Identify your type.

Do you think that re-inventing yourself and turning yourself into a trend setter is an illusion?

While to some of us, the sense of style comes naturally, for many others it takes quite a while to figure it out. Personal style is mostly about understanding and acceptance of your body and personality type.

"I never really felt pretty, bright or socially adept."
– Grace Kelly

Not surprisingly, almost every famous woman style icon felt the same. Learning to forgive yourself for the small flaws, accepting them, turning them into your own unique advantage, requires understanding of the importance of details, love for observation and also a great deal of a sense of humor. Examples? Princess Diana, Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly, Coco Chanel – the famous women who fascinated the world.

Finding out more about your personality and body type is the principal secret of being well dressed. Types are vastly different. Looks should correspond to the way of life, occupation, your body type and of course – what you love.

Using the style expert can often help.

In her autobiography "Shocking Life" Elsa Schiaparelli, the great fashion designer, gave an example of an importance of match between the personality and style:

"A thin girl who seemed ugly and dowdy once sat in the corner of my salon. I did not know her, but she interested me, and I offered to help her choose her clothes. She allowed me to do as I thought best, now and again making a remark in a sharp, husky voice. She went out looking strikingly beautiful. Not long afterwards I read an interview she gave in America. She said that this transformation in my showroom had been the starting-point of a wonderful job. Her name? Katharine Hepburn."

Style makeover tip number 2. Learn from the best.

You do not have to follow fashion. But if you want to perfect your style, you have to have a role model (s) and learn the best from her.

Coco Chanel became famous for creating her ever-lasting style that contradicted fashions of her time. However, she was also known for her love of watching people, learning the best from them and rejecting what she found unacceptable. She quickly noticed that real chic was in the behavior and manners, not in wearing elegant dress. Watching aristocratic ladies, their "ravishing duplicity", their stylish manners, their knowledge of how to enter a room at the right moment and when to leave, would become her own learning point.
